The Research Behind Our Ingredients
The Research Behind Our Ingredients
At Just Soap, we believe customers should be able to see the research behind the ingredients we use. The studies below are provided for education and transparency. Research on an ingredient does not establish that a finished soap product treats, prevents, or cures a disease, and results from a leave-on product may not apply directly to a rinse-off soap.
Colloidal Oatmeal
Colloidal oatmeal has some of the strongest evidence in this ingredient group, particularly for moisturization and skin-barrier support.
- Randomized controlled study — colloidal oatmeal and skin-barrier function
- Randomized clinical trial — colloidal oatmeal, eczema and skin barrier
- Double-blind randomized trial — colloidal oatmeal barrier cream
Coconut Oil
- Randomized double-blind trial — virgin coconut oil versus mineral oil for xerosis
- Randomized double-blind trial — virgin coconut oil and pediatric atopic dermatitis
Jojoba Oil
- Dermatology review — jojoba in dermatology
- Recent review — jojoba oil and cosmetic/skin applications
Turmeric / Curcumin
- Systematic review — turmeric/curcumin and skin health
- Systematic review — randomized trials of curcumin in dermatology
- Systematic review — Curcuma species and dermatological applications
African Shea Butter
- Clinical evidence review — vegetable oils and butters, including shea butter
- Clinical study — shea-butter-based emollient
Castor Oil
Lavender
A note about the evidence
The quality and amount of evidence varies by ingredient. Colloidal oatmeal and coconut oil have clinical studies directly examining skin outcomes; evidence for several other ingredients is more limited or comes from reviews, formulations, or studies that do not directly match a rinse-off handmade soap.
We do not use these studies to claim that Just Soap treats or cures autoimmune disease, eczema, psoriasis, or other medical conditions. “Autoimmune friendly” describes our emphasis on straightforward ingredient and fragrance information and is not a medical claim.
